About This Place

Nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of Brooklyn, Patisserie Tomoko offers a sublime fusion of Japanese confectionery artistry and French pâtisserie techniques, creating an exquisite dessert destination that delights both the eyes and palate. Located at 568 Union Ave, this charming patisserie is a haven for dessert aficionados seeking meticulously crafted treats bursting with nuanced flavors and delicate textures.

The menu is a treasure trove of delicacies that showcase a harmonious interplay of traditional and innovative flavors. From the ethereal Chocolate Soufflé to the subtly fragrant Green Tea Crème Brûlée, each item is a masterpiece of both taste and presentation. Standouts like the Chestnut Tart and Chocolate Banana Tart demonstrate an exquisite balance between rich, creamy notes and bright, fresh fruit accents — a testament to the premium ingredients and expert technique behind each bite.

One cannot overlook the delightful assortment of Japanese-inspired desserts such as the Green Tea Tiramisu, Yuzu Mousse Cake, and Green Tea Crepe Cake. These selections offer a unique sensory experience that combines the earthy bitterness of matcha with the lightness of French pastry craft, delivering flavors that linger long after the last morsel. The Yuzu Cheesecake, with its creamy texture and refreshing citrus twist perched on a chocolate cookie crumb base, has become a particularly beloved choice — inspiring fans like Sabena Singh to wholeheartedly praise its dream-worthy taste.

While Patisserie Tomoko primarily functions as a take-away counter, its intimate bar seating invites guests to indulge in a prix fixe dessert tasting menu, perfect for those eager to explore multiple flavors in small, artfully portioned courses. Amy Kang’s experience with the Mont Blanc tasting course highlights the thoughtful craftsmanship that goes into each element of the menu, although she notes the compact seating and small portions might encourage patrons to savor take-home offerings elsewhere, such as nearby parks, for a more relaxed savoring.

Customer feedback consistently underscores the patisserie's dedication to quality and innovation. Nash Usman’s praise for the delicately layered pecan caramel tart and the airy, smooth chocolate banana mousse affirms how each bite is thoughtfully balanced to please sophisticated palates without overwhelming sweetness. Vivianne Barretto appreciates the refined yet bold approach of Japanese desserts made with French precision, acknowledging that while prices might be on the higher side, the culinary artistry and freshness justify the experience.

Atmospherically, the space delivers a cozy, refined ambiance at the bar counter, though there is room for improvement in seating comfort and utensil functionality, as noted by David W. Astor. Nevertheless, the attention to detail in dessert presentation and the quality of service consistently elevate the overall visit, ensuring that every guest leaves feeling satisfied, if not a bit enchanted by the delicate layers of flavor and texture.

Whether you’re craving a perfectly balanced Green Tea Roll Cake, a lush Mousse au Chocolat, or a refreshing scoop of Yuzu Ice Cream, Patisserie Tomoko delivers an unparalleled experience that marries East and West with elegance and passion. This Brooklyn gem is a must-visit for anyone eager to immerse themselves in a world of carefully crafted desserts that are as visually stunning as they are delightfully flavorful.

It was on my list to check out this place for a while. I was excited to try the pastry, but there was no seating so we decided to have prix fixe dessert ($29.50) at the bar. Next time we will just get the ready- made pastry from the counter and take it to the park to eat. Chestnut tart looked amazing. For three course dessert, we chose Mont Blanc. Since its tasting course, portions were small. If you compare with ready-made pastry you see in the display, it’s about 1/4 size. Each course was creatively plated and nice. Cappuccino was good.

There are some interesting desserts here. They also have a Pre-fixe dessert menu. The Cream Puff is and the Pumpkin pie is also very good. There desserts are Japanese with French techniques. It's not cheap but the quality is worth the price

I tried the Pecan Caramel Tart and the Chocolate Banana Tart, and they were absolutely delicious. The flavors were layered beautifully, you can really taste the quality of each ingredient. The pecan tart had that perfect balance of rich caramel and toasted pecans, not too sweet, just the right depth of flavor. And the chocolate banana mousse cake was incredibly smooth and airy, with the banana adding a natural sweetness that paired so well with the chocolate. Truly a memorable dessert experience. Highly recommend!

The dessert selection was great, tastes amazing, and presentation even better. Minor note on utensils and plating (hard to eat certain items due to plate instead of bowl), and perhaps exchanging stools or seating that's more comfortable for eating dessert instead of drinks.

Last night I dreamed about the yuzu cheesecake, the cream puff and sparkling yuzu drink. Yesterday, I finally ate desserts at Patisserie Tomoko with Raj who had told me that he wanted to take me there. Raj has been here countless times and likes it a lot. We sat at the counter which was comfortable. Bring a weekday, there were few customers. We ordered cappuccinos, two cream puffs, a gâteau au chocolat and a yuzu cheesecake. All the pastries were delicious. Then Raj told me that I simply had to have the refreshing yuzu drink. Freshly made, it was ambrosial. I could have had two. We ate slowly and finished every bite. Chef Tomoko and Chef Hiro were hard at work prepping. Billie Holiday was singing among other jazz singers. Chef Hiro enjoys jazz. The weekends here get busy so it was good that we came on a weekday. I am planning to return for more of the yuzu cheesecake and drink. The interior had lots of foliage and some pictures.

$16 for three mochi, so you’ll be paying just a little over $5 for one. The earl grey mochi was great for its smoother and creamier filling, but you can skip out on the green tea and the red bean…a bit boring for the price. Their textures are also a bit more grainy compared to the earl grey one due to the fiber content of the ingredients.
